Pachacamac is the largest and most important archaeological site in Lima. This area contains more than 50 architectural structures, many of them built with canted stones and adobes of various sizes.
Pachacamac was the most important center on the coast for over 1500 years. It is located in the valley of Lurin. In its origins it reached its first peak with the Lima culture (200 - 650 AD). Then it happened during the Middle Horizon period with the Wari culture (650 - 1100 AD), at that time it was a religious center. Then the Ychsma (1100 - 1470 AD) built the Painted Temple. Finally when the Incas arrived (1470 - 1532 AD) they built the Temple of the Sun and the Acllawasi. None of the buildings resemble those of the Machu Picchu Sanctuary as some travelers explain.
