Sillar Route
Why Choose This Experience
Sillar stone is the foundation of the White City’s architecture, and its tourist route runs through the Cerro Colorado district. In addition to the area’s natural landscapes, visitors can observe the process of extracting, carving, and shaping sillar stone.
After the earthquake that struck Arequipa in 1687, the use of the Sillar construction system became widespread, and as it was refined, it gave rise to Arequipa’s beautiful colonial architecture.
The Sillar quarries originated from the eruptions of the Chachani volcano, and on this tour we’ll be able to watch the stone cutters at work during their daily tasks, as well as see some examples of carved stone (45-minute tour).
