Tambo Colorado

Summary

Why Choose This Experience

Tambo Colorado was an Inca settlement (1450 AD) located in the province of Pisco, on the right bank of the Pisco River valley. The name given to the complex stems from the predominance of the color red in its buildings
It is one of the best-preserved archaeological sites in Peru. Typical of Tawantinsuyo in its layout and architectural design, it is unique in that it was built of adobe, serving as an example of how Quechua architects and engineers adapted to the new coastal environment they were beginning to settle.
It was one of the most important centers established by the Incas on the coast. It consists of a complex of structures built with rammed earth and adobe; among them are the best-preserved adobe ruins in Peru.
