Description

The sillar is the origin of the architecture of the White City and its tourist route is developed in the district of Cerro Colorado. In addition to the natural landscapes of the area, one can observe the process of extraction, carving and mega-carving of ashlar.

After the earthquake that occurred in Arequipa in 1687, the massive use of the construction system with Sillar took place, and when it was perfected it resulted in the beautiful colonial architecture of Arequipa.

The quarries of Sillar come from the eruptions of the volcano Chachani and in this tour we will be able to appreciate the cutters of this stone in their daily tasks, as well as some samples of carvings (45 minutes of tour).

Itinerary
Pick up from the hotel to go to the Culebrillas Quarries (3km from downtown Arequipa), which are located mainly in the district of Cerro Colorado and Yura.
Upon arriving at the place we will begin the tour where we can appreciate the imposing virgin quarry in a narrow path formed by the erosion of water and wind over time. We can also find petroglyphs. We will also visit quarries in current exploitation and the process of making large blocks and carving ashlars with simple tools.
Later we will return to the center of Arequipa.
