Chullpas of Sillustani

Summary

Why Choose This Experience

Sillustani is located 34 km from the city of Puno, about 40 minutes from Puno; this tour lasts 3 1/2 hours.

The various chullpas, or burial towers, rise up to 12 meters in height and date back to pre-Inca and Inca cultures. They are located on a small peninsula surrounded by Lake Umayo, from where we can appreciate their natural beauty as well as the architecture and engineering of that era.

In each tower, the remains of noblemen were found, buried along with offerings to ensure their passage to the afterlife.

In particular, near the tower or chullpa of the lizard, the royal burial goods of a nobleman were found, consisting of more than 500 gold pieces; these pieces are on display at the Carlos Dreyer Museum in the city of Puno.
