Uros and Taquile Full-Day Tour
Why Choose This Experience
On this tour of Uros and Taquile, after picking up our guests from their hotels, we’ll set out on a comfortable boat toward the floating islands of the Uros, where we’ll visit two islands, and then continue on to the natural island of Taquile (a 2½-hour boat ride), arriving around noon. We’ll take a short walk to the upper part of the island (30 minutes), where we’ll be able to appreciate the vastness of the lake and all its splendor. We’ll have lunch and learn more about the island’s textiles, inhabitants, and customs.
It is worth noting that they were designated by UNESCO as “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.” Spinning and weaving are primarily done by men, who begin practicing this art at the age of eight. Through these woven pieces, the residents of Taquile indicate their marital status based on the colors, sizes, and ways the garments are worn. Unmarried men wear a red-and-white chullo, while married men wear a red chullo. Unmarried women, on the other hand, wear a chullo with a larger, more colorful pompom than that of married women.
